Exclusive Typographic Footwear

Museum Plantin-Moretus, Antwerp
In my talk at the graduation ceremony of the Plantin Institute of Typography on September 10, 2011, I mentioned that it is rather strange that visitors to the Museum Plantin-Moretus are allowed to keep their shoes on. You would expect visitors to be asked to take off their shoes in this Sacred Temple of Typography. On the other hand, this can have a negative effect on the content and quality of the atmosphere in the museum, and thus on the valuable collection.
So, my suggestion was that future visitors to the museum should wear Plantoffels™. ‘Pantoffel’ is the Dutch word for indoor slipper and the brand name Plantoffels™ finds its origin in the surname and first name of Christoffel Plantin. However, I can imagine that there will also be a lot of interest in Plantoffels™ outside the musem, so they will soon be available online (exclusively from this site, of course). Shoe size will be determined in various mutually incompatible systems, as in the best typographic tradition.
